Director of Community
Denise serves as Director of Community at Legacy Venture. She guides and manages Legacy’s diverse community, which includes over 600 philanthropic individuals and foundations invested in Legacy funds as well as venture capital and philanthropic partners.
Denise plays a vital role in advancing the Legacy community strategy. She works with members to provide effective ways to engage, connect and collaborate for greater philanthropic impact. She is deeply committed to building a strong network of members and other likeminded philanthropic organizations. With her passion for connection and collaboration, Denise has designed innovative and creative programs and a safe, peer-to-peer learning environment in which to explore ideas and connections.
Denise manages a very diverse community. She brings cohesiveness to unique segments of the Legacy community through strategic verticals such as the Next Gen and Women Connect programs. With extensive insight into members’ philanthropic interests and the greater philanthropic landscape, Denise enhances Legacy’s community impact by identifying opportunities for collaboration among members with similar goals.
Denise has traveled to India on a Unitus Partner Expedition to observe and promote the power of microfinance. She has firsthand experience in the creation of the Patagonia National Park in Chile. Through her travels, she has also experienced the impact of The Nature Conservancy’s programs at the Lewa and Loisaba safaris to positively impact the lives of the neighboring tribal communities through tourism. Most recently, Denise led Legacy learning journeys to Vietnam and China; these immersive trips with Legacy investors highlighted the culture, philanthropy, and social entrepreneurship of these unique countries.
Prior to her fourteen years at Legacy, Denise served as Vice President of Operations and Chief Compliance Officer at Woodford Capital Management for eight years.
Denise is a Chicago native and holds a B.S. in business from Indiana University, Bloomington. She got her passion and love of other cultures from her year abroad during college. Denise is married with two adult children.
